what we believe
Everything we teach at VowsToKeep
is based upon the truth of the Bible:
Who God says He is, how He asks us to obey His Word,
and His perfect design for marriage.
the bible is our authority
The Bible is the inspired Word of God, without error (see 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21). It is our ultimate authority (see Psalm 19:7-11). The Bible is how we define the problems we have in our marriage AND where we find the solutions to those problems. When we come under the authority of God's Word and trust that obeying God is best, we will find the ultimate blessing in our life and marriage (see John 15:1-17).
Whether we are in a counseling session, recording podcasts, writing blog posts about how to have a Biblically healthy marriage, or speaking at an event, we aim to teach 100% from the Bible.
marriage
In the Garden of Eden, God declared that marriage is one man and one woman joined in a lifetime, covenant relationship (Genesis 2:18-24, Matthew 19:6, Malachi 2:14-16).
Although the Bible gives a permitted reason for divorce (adultery, see Matthew 19:9),
it is not something that God desires.
God's heart is always reconciliation (for more on this, listen HERE or read HERE.)
The one true god
God exists eternally as three persons:
The Father (see 1 Corinthians 8:6, Ephesians 4:6, 1 John 3:1).
The Son (see John 1:1-3, John 1:14; Matthew 1:18-23, Hebrews 4:15, 2 Corinthians 5:21,
Luke 24:36-43, and Hebrews 4:14-16).
And the Holy Spirit (see John 16:7-15, Acts 5:3-4,1 Corinthians 12:13, Romans 8:9, Ephesians 3:16,
Acts 1:8, and Galatians 5:22-23).
salvation
We are made in the image of God but are born into sin due to the fall (Genesis 3:1-24; Romans 5:12).
We can become right with God and receive eternal salvation by God's grace alone
when we put our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work
(Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7; 1 Peter 1:18-19).
discipleship
Jesus calls us to a life of discipling others, walking alongside each other to grow
in Christlikeness (see Matthew 28:18-20, Galatians 6:1-2).
Discipleship is essentially counseling and counseling is discipleship...we are broken people helping broken people, working to learn and obey God's Word as we help others do the same (see Hebrews 10:24-25).
Every person, including us, is fallen (see Romans 3:23) but God gave us each other in the body of Christ so that we may all grow up into Him who is the Head, that is Christ Jesus (see Ephesians 4:11-17).
We are privileged to be in the role in your life to teach and disciple you and your spouse. For more on how we can come alongside you and your marriage, please see our COUNSELING page.
